I am a Peninsula Native & Cañada College Alumni since 2010. Currently going back to school to become a Substance Abuse Counselor (CADC) & Part-time teacher for adolescents to help out our future generation & encourage those who do not have the support.
I have pretty much lived at this campus my whole life & watched all of the changes occur since my mother was a former employee since she was 27 years old. Since her retirement I have made it my mission to be a part of the Cañada College community & give back to our students as she did. I was grateful to start off as part-time & eventually welcomed back for a full-time position to continue to help our students.
I hope to be of assistance to all of you & just know you have my support. 😊

BIOGRAPHY:
I have been the Learning Disability Specialist/DRC Counselor at Cañada College since July 2015. I possess a BA in Art History with a minor in Education from UCSC, MS in Rehabilitation Counseling from SFSU, and I earned the Adult Learning Disabilities certificate from Sacramento State University in 2015. I experienced the most thrilling accomplishment of my life in June, 2013. I earned my Masters from the San Francisco State University in Rehabilitation Counseling. I accomplished this in spite of being diagnosed with a learning disability (LD) in third grade. Throughout my life, I was continuously told my disability could keep me from being a successful student. Contrary to what I was told, this setback has been the very source of motivation for me to strive for academic excellence. Overcoming my own barriers and obstacles to academic achievement has provided me with a foundation upon which I could readily help others. I feel strongly drawn to a career in counseling, assessing students for LDs, identifying barriers, and find strategies to meet these challenges. I help students set up disability accommodations and teach them study strategies. I want students to understand how their brain process information and give them strategies/tools to use when learning. My advice for students is to use office hours with professors and ask as many questions as you can. A fun fact is that I was born and raised in San Francisco.

BIOGRAPHY:
Born and raised in San Francisco, I moved to Redwood City in 1972. A friend who loved school, convinced me to take some computer courses in 1993 at Cañada College and this opened me up to a whole new world. I quickly fell in love with learning and have encountered many wonderful instructors and students along the way.
I soon went from Student onto Student Aide and then became an Instructional Aide ll in the year 2000. Over the years I have found great joy helping students and then seeing the smiles on their face as they suddenly understood what was being taught! I have taught Mini Workshops on Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
In 2020 I moved to the DRC Division of Cañada College and have enjoyed the new challenges presented with learning Kurzweil in 2020, Notetaking and Proctoring in 2021.
In my spare time my pleasures are spending time with my children and ‘granimals.’ Also, time spent getting together with my friends for a good lunch or dinner and a good movie. Going to the beach for leisure walks or sitting down with a book to read.
