DreamCatchers is an after-school program founded and built beginning in 2008 by Stanford students aiming to close the achievement gap in Palo Alto. We specifically target only low-income middle school students in Palo Alto Unified School District. As a result, we have a very strong partnership with the District, sharing their resources and professional expertise. The heart of DreamCatchers is a dedicated corps of Stanford undergraduate volunteer tutor/mentors, a small group of whom then take on leadership roles. To help close Palo Alto's large achievement gap, DreamCatchers is focusing on middle school math because of the key role it plays in future college and career trajectories. We also provide fun, hands-on enrichment and a healthy behaviors program, but our primary goal is to move the needle on the achievement gap by working in close partnership with our students' parents, classroom teachers and District experts.
