Capital Improvement Projects at Cañada College

As Cañada College celebrates its 50th anniversary, the campus is set to undergo a series of exciting upgrades and transformations! With a number of capital improvements on the horizon, these enhancements will provide Cañada students, faculty, staff and the community with a progressive, learning-centered environment in state-of-the-art facilities.

The new Kinesiology & Wellness Center will be the premier educational fitness facility for student and the greater community. The two story structure will boast two beautiful pools, hi-tech classrooms, and a basketball gymnasium – all primed for instruction and wellness activities.

A new Math, Science and Technology Building will provide a modern, state-of-the-art instructional atmosphere for mathematics, lab science and technology. Alongside of the building will be an adjacent plaza to draw students from multiple points of campus.

All of the enhancements will provide an intellectually stimulating setting, where students can thrive in achieving their educational goals. The modern enhancements will invite students to build community and share memorable experiences.

Office Relocations & Campus Enhancements

While the students and community will greatly benefit from Cañada College’s enhanced facilities, the construction requires changes in normal campus operations for the next several years. Students, faculty and staff will be kept up to date through campus wide emails, updates on the construction website and other means with the latest announcements of office relocations, lot and road closures and other events. Among the anticipated changes are:

  • Beginning early October 2017 through December 2017, some upgrades to the campus infrastructure needs to be completed. Trenching will begin alongside Building 3 and up the fire lane along B13 to provide chilled water for air conditioning for these two new buildings, Building 1 and 23. One of the campus main chillers at Building 3 that provides chilled water will be replaced by a larger and more efficient chiller. The work will be performed incrementally to minimize impact to the campus. All work will be fenced off and clearly marked during this construction event.
  • Building 13 Roof towers will be getting a new roof. This work will begin in early October and will be completed mid-November 2017.
  • Office and classroom relocations: All departments and offices in Building 1 were relocated in Summer 2017. Most Building 1 departments and facilities were moved to Buildings 3, 5, 9 as well as offsite.
  • Lot 4 closure: In late May or early June 2017, Lot 4 will be closed in preparation for the new Kinesiology & Well Center and Plaza. Students, faculty and staff who use Lot 4 will need to find alternate parking on campus.
  • Road updates and re-routing: Campus roadways will be subject to occasional closures at times during the construction of the new facilities. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic as necessary. Closures and detours will be announced and well-marked.

Building Capacity & Expanding Resources

These high-impact projects are about moving Cañada College forward and putting students first; meeting growing demands and maintaining our promise to students. The capital improvements will provide the competitive resources and learning opportunities that students need to succeed and achieve their educational goals.
