ESL Pathway
English Language Learners
If you speak a language other than English and feel that you would benefit from taking classes in our English as a Second Language (ESL) Department, you may choose to place yourself into the ESL course sequence. An academic counselor will explain the many options you have for determining which ESL class is right for you.
Pathway Class Options
Off Campus
Prep: ESL 800 (5 Units)
Level 1: ESL 911 (5 Units) | ESL 921 (5 Units)

On Cañada College Campus
Level 2: ESL 912 (5 Units) | ESL 922 (5 Units)
Level 3: ESL 913 (5 Units) | ESL 923 (5 Units)
Level 4: ESL 914 (5 Units) | ESL 924 (5 Units)
* ACE Award
Transfer Level:
ESL 400 (5 Units) | Library 100 (1 Unit)
English 100 (3 Units) OR English 105 (5 Units)

Placement into ESL classes is done by using a Guided Self Placement tool which includes assessments of each student’s skill levels in the following areas: Writing and Grammar, Reading, and Listening and Speaking.
