NSF Workshop
NSF California Lower-Division Engineering Curriculum Articulation Workshop
The National Science Foundation is sponsoring the California Lower-Division Engineering Curriculum Articulation Workshop to bring together engineering faculty from the California community colleges, the University of California and California State University systems. The main goal of the workshop is to improve the alignment and articulation of engineering courses between community college engineering programs and the universities in order to streamline the transfer process for thousands of community college engineering students as mandated by CA Senate Bill 1440.
During the workshop, which will be led by members of the Faculty Discipline Review Group (FDRG) and state-level academic senate leaders, course descriptors (C-IDs) for lower-division engineering courses and the proposed statewide model curricula for mechanical, civil, aeronautics, and manufacturing engineering, for electrical engineering, and for computer engineering will be reviewed. The eleven courses that will be reviewed are: Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Graphics, MATLAB, Computer Programming, Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Materials Science, Surveying, Circuits Lecture, and Circuits Lab. Approximately 100 participants will be attending from the three segments of California's engineering education community: 30 from CSUs (two each from the 15 CSUs with undergraduate engineering degree programs), 18 from UCs (two each from the nine UC campuses), and 52 from community colleges.
