About the Data Analytics Industry

Data is everywhere! The Internet of Things (IoT) is not only about attaching sensors to existing objects, but it is also creating markets for new devices and inventions. IoT has led to exponential growth in the quantities of data being produced.  When the data becomes so vast, fast, or complex for traditional storage and analytic applications, it is called Big Data. In this program, you will learn the basics of retrieving and managing big data, analyzing and gaining insight from it, and visualizing and communicating those insights to allow business to make informed decisions. Big data analytics is one of the most promising and in-demand career paths for skilled professionals.

The IoT and Big Data Analytics Program at Cañada College

Learn the foundational skills behind data analytics, data science and machine learning. Here you will interact with a raspberry pie, Google sheets and Python to analyze data and gain insights. By the end of this program you will learn to program your raspberry pie to analyze data of people smiling, then train the camera feature to snap pictures once it detects a smile! If you are thinking of joining the computer science field and need a place to start, this program is for you.

In this class students will:

  • Use Python to create code that reads data from sensors and stores it in a SQL database.
  • Visualize, clean, manipulate and integrate data sets.
  • Use regression and classification trees to create prediction models.
  • Use storytelling to present insights gained from extracted data.
  • Build a camera responsive Raspberry Pi
  • Earn a CISCO Certification
