Overview

The Interdisciplinary Studies major is designed for students pursuing broad areas of study and exploration in any of the areas of emphasis. Option 1 enables students to complete the requirements for the Associates Degree, while option 2 enables students to complete the requirements for the Associates degree and transfer admission requirements to the California State University, University of California, or private and out-of-state universities.

Important: Completion of the CSU or UC patterns does not guarantee admission to any of these institutions. Consult with a counselor for further information.

Program Learning Outcomes for AA Interdisciplinary Studies Emphasis in Arts and Humanities:

Students completing this program will be able to:

  • Select, evaluate, and use information to solve problems, investigate and express a point of view, support a conclusion, engage in or assess creative expression, and explicate the intellectual connections between disciplines.
  • Use spoken and written language, source material, evidence, and artistic expression to convey an idea or set of facts according to institutional and discipline standards.
  • Demonstrate the ability to recognize and interpret multiple points of view and means of expression that emerge from a diverse world of peoples and cultures.

Program Learning Outcomes for AA Interdisciplinary Studies Emphasis in Natural Science and Mathematics:

Students completing this program will be able to:

  • Use the scientific method to investigate scientific questions and critically evaluate and effectively communicate scientific data
  • Use symbolic, graphical and numerical representation of mathematical ideas to address real world problems
  • Critically evaluate scientific information and examine its significance and impact on society and the environment

Program Learning Outcomes for AA Interdisciplinary Studies Emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences:

Students completing this program will be able to:

  • Analyze Social Science concepts and theories
  • Evaluate diverse viewpoints related to the human experience
  • Produce evidence based arguments

Transfer

Cañada College offers lower division coursework required for transfer in this area of study. Students should use PROJECT ASSIST (www.assist.org) to research lower division major requirements at the transfer destination(s) of their choice. Also, work with a Counselor/Advisor to determine appropriate transfer coursework.
