ACCEL ( Adult-Education College and Career Educational Leadership)

The Adult-Education College and Career Educational Leadership (ACCEL) is the planning body for San Mateo County’s Adult Education Block Grant funding.

The consortium includes the San Mateo Community College District, five adult schools, K-12 district offices, and several regional community partners throughout the county.

Our objective is to support students transitioning from adult schools to campus programs so that they're prepared to transfer, transition to a technical/vocational/trade program, or enter the workforce upon completing their studies at Cañada College.  The adult schools Cañada College partners with include Sequoia Adult School (Menlo Park), and La Costa Adult School (Half Moon Bay).

Our programs serve to:

  • Create a structured and clear pathway into Cañada College, that is specifically designed for adult education students. This includes guided support during the application process and access to college level courses (available on adult school sites) that help students get through college easily, quickly, and affordably.
  • Increase student knowledge of community resources and support services and provide dedicated support staff in assisting students with financial planning and increasing academic, life, and leadership skills.
  • Provide career and college  exploration in the classroom, to increase awareness of career and college options.
  • Expose students to different events, workshops, and programs to develop awareness and skills on different topics.

ACCEL recognizes that every path toward success is unique. Whether you are an adult learner with a goal to improve your education, gain employment, or connect with your community—we can help you toward your vision!
