Lit 231: Survey of English Literature I

Learn about the early masterpieces of English Literature beginning with the era of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and The Canterbury Tales.  See the development of English drama in the Morality and Mystery Plays.  Study the political and social issues in Shakespeare, the Elizabethan age, and the 17th century.  We will read Middle English texts in their original language as well as in Modern English. 

This is an essential course for English majors and is fully transferrable to UC and CSU.
