Financial Basics: Credit 101

A workshop to help you understand and manage your credit and how to start your credit history if you do not have a SSN. Maintaining good credit gives you financial negotiating power. It means easier approval for apartments and homes, better car insurance rates, lower interest rates on credit cards and loans, and even allows you to get a cell phone on contract with no security deposit. Join SparkPoint at SMCCCD for a vital zoom workshop to learn how you can build, manage, and save your credit.

 

Bring Your Pet to Zoom Day with PHS/SPCA

Students and staff are invited to bring their pets and share how they have been helping them during this time. We will have PHS/SPCA Pet Assisted Therapy (PAT) teams also share about their therapy animals and how they have helped during virtual and/or in-person PAT visits. We also invite students and staff who do not have pets join in, to meet the pets virtually.

 

Can Dolly Save Us? Examining American Exceptionalism Through a Black Feminist Perspective

The past few years have been Dolly years. What drives our current cultural fascination — and worship — of Dolly Parton? How can we read this alongside the realities of our #BlackLivesMatter and the #MeToo movements? Is there a connection? This discussion will explore these questions through the work of Black feminist scholars. This event is a collaboration between SMCCCF and Professor Seon-Hye Moon.

Please join the Career Center and Facebook for an information session about career opportunities at Facebook. This event will run for 90 minutes and will focus on the following areas:

  • Educating students on the Facebook mission, teams, and opportunities: We hope to help students better understand the work that we do, and the career opportunities available to them at Facebook.
  • Providing insights into our Data Centers: Students will have an opportunity to hear directly from members of our Data Center team and learn about their day-to-day roles.
  • Q&A with the Facebook team
  • Students and Faculty can submit their questions ahead of time on the RSVP Form.

The featured guest is actress, model and philanthropist, Alex Meneses. Alex has been featured on television shows including: CW’s new series Walker, Why Women Kill, Jane the Virgin, Everyone Loves Raymond, Telenova, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and the film Selena.
