Best Practices and Resources in Support of our Jewish Students During Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
This year, Rosh Hashanah begins at nightfall on Friday, September 11 and ends at nightfall on Sunday, September 13. Yom Kippur begins at nightfall on Sunday, September 20 to sundown on Monday, September 21. The Office of Equity has prepared a series of best practices for you to support our Jewish students, faculty, staff and administrators on campus. This special time is marked by important contemplation and practices that may change the way our campus community accesses food, water, rest and reflection. More information about the observation of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is included here. In particular, we share these best practices, resources and event(s) in support of our students and colleagues.
Cañada College Celebrates Latinx Heritage Month (LHM)
Cañada College will be filled with music, food, stories and celebrations that honor the beauty and diversity of our Latinx community. Come connect, learn and celebrate together as we highlight cross-sectional culture, traditions and identities. Please visit the college events calendar to view workshops and events for the campus community and the broader Redwood City community to amplify Latinx voices and identities.
Coyote Safety Tips for Campus Community
With recent coyote sightings near campus, the Cañada College Public Safety Department reminds everyone to maintain a safe distance and never approach, feed or run from the animal. If a coyote approaches you, make yourself appear larger, keep children and pets close and use loud noises to frighten it away. Please report any sightings or aggressive behavior to Public Safety at (650) 738-7000, or call 911 in an emergency.
Red Cards & Undocumented Community Resources
Wallet-sized “Red Cards” that explain how to safely assert your rights during interactions with immigration enforcement are available for pickup at the Undocumented Community Center. These cards are offered in multiple languages, including Spanish, English, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and Portuguese. These can also be printed. Visit the District’s Undocumented Community Resources or stop by the Undocumented Community Center (Building 9, Room 118), open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.
