Best Practices and Resources in Support of our Muslim Students and Colleagues During Ramadan

This year, Ramadan began at sunset on Tuesday, February 17 and ends on the evening of Thursday, March 19. The Office of Equity and Cultural Center have prepared a series of best practices to support our Muslim students, faculty, staff and administrators on campus. This special time is marked by important contemplation and practices that may change the way our campus community accesses food, water, rest and reflection. More information about the observation of Ramadan is included here. In particular, we share these best practices, resources and event(s) in support of our students and colleagues.

Red Cards & Undocumented Community Resources

Wallet-sized “Red Cards” that explain how to safely assert your rights during interactions with immigration enforcement are available for pickup at the Undocumented Community Center. These cards are offered in multiple languages, including Spanish, English, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian and Portuguese. These can also be printed from home here. Visit the District’s Undocumented Community Resources  or stop by the  Undocumented Community Center (Building 9, Room 118), open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m.

Reminder: Districtwide Violent Intruder Drills Today, February 24

As a reminder, the SMCCCD Office of Emergency Management will conduct two coordinated Violent Intruder drills today Tuesday, February 24, at 10:45 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. across all three colleges and the District Office, reinforcing the “Hide” tactic within the District’s Run, Hide, Fight response strategy. During the drill, follow AlertMe and PA instructions and practice securing your space; Building Captains will support preplanning and monitor notifications for effectiveness. Questions can be directed to Ben’Zara Minkin at (650) 574-6634.
