Lyft Rides for Cañada Students*

Cañada College offers current Cañada students transportation assistance to/from Cañada. This program is intended to help address transportation needs by providing on-demand rides for Cañada students. The program is made possible through a partnership between Cañada and the Lyft ridesharing app.

Please note: The Lyft program is offered dependent on funding availability and subject to change. Students will be notified of changes in the program should they arise.

Colts Lyft: Ride to Cañada College

The Colts Lyft: Ride to Cañada College offers Cañada College students rides to and from campus during the eligible time windows.

*Program Details: revised parameters effective Spring 2025

  • Riders must be over 18 years old to participate
  • Must be enrolled in 6 or more credits of in-person or hybrid coursework in the Spring 2025 at Cañada College
  • Up to 16 rides per month
  • Up to $25 per ride covered by Cañada
  • Valid on Standard rides only
  • Must start or end at a designated pick-up/drop-off site
  • Monday-Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (No weekend service)

How to Sign-Up

Check your student email inbox for an invitation from Lyft Business, and follow the steps to sign up. Once you click the link and join, the complimentary Lyft Ride allotments will apply to eligible rides during your time as a Cañada student. If you did not receive an invitation, please email cantransportation@smccd.edu. Don’t yet have a Lyft account? Download the app and create an account to get started.

Additional Program Information

  • This program will be available as long as funding permits and is subject to change or ending early. You will be notified about any changes in the program should they arise.
  • If you request a ride that doesn't meet the criteria, you will not see the discount shown on your ride confirmation screen and you will pay out of pocket.
  • Prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events, and primetime surcharges.
  • College funds used to support student rides will be recorded as financial aid to students.

Tips For Riding with Lyft

  • Verify your ride by making sure the license plate number, driver information, and car make and model match what you see in the app.
  • Share your location and route with a friend or loved one from within the Lyft app so they can follow your ride in real time.
  • Follow the Lyft vehicle on GPS via the app.
  • Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.
  • Learn more about how to ride smart with Lyft.

Lyft’s Health Safety Program

In response to COVID-19, Lyft launched a Health Safety Program, which includes:
  • Personal health certification for drivers and riders.
  • Required face masks for drivers and riders.
  • Health safety education for drivers and riders.
  • Distribution of cleaning supplies and masks for drivers.
