The STEM Peer Mentor Program emphasizes relationship building and academic role-modeling between successful, more advanced STEM students and beginning STEM students (especially low-income, first-generation, minority, and female students).

Bio: Hello everyone!!! My name is Yasmin Yudith Ochoa Salazar. I am a first-generation college student; I was born in the U.S.A and raised in Mexico, so I’m bilingual. I am a Civil Engineering major, planning to specialize in geotechnical engineering or structural engineering. This is my second year at Cañada College, and I’m planning to transfer to a UC or a CSU. Besides being a STEM Peer Mentor, I am also an intern at San Francisco Public Works, where I work for the Paving Project Management Department, and I’m also a member of Women in STEM Community on campus. I look forward to working with you because I know what it is like to be a new student in your position. I am also looking forward to helping you throughout your journey and making it manageable by sharing all the resources that will help you succeed. Even if I am not your official mentor, feel free to ask me any questions. I am more than happy to help you out in your journey at Cañada College.

Bio: Hi, my name is Adrien Carrou I am currently a second year student at Cañada College pursuing a degree in Computer Science. I plan on transferring to San Jose State University in 2021. I first started my college education at Oregon State University majoring in Marine Biology, but after the first quarter I realized it wasn’t for me, and decided to study abroad in France for six months. I’ve really enjoyed this past year at Cañada College. I have met some amazing people and mentors who have helped me with my educational needs and career goals. Having this experience makes me want to give back to the community, and be there for people who need someone to talk to, and support their goals so they can set themselves up for success. I am always happy to talk and help out in any way possible during your academic journey at Cañada College.

Bio: Hi everyone! I am Adrian Posadas and I have been at Cañada for 2 years now. I started off as a business major but I am currently majoring in Computer Science. My main goal is to transfer to a UC by 2021 while completing my AA/AS-T degrees at Cañada. I am also a part of the Engineering Club and MESA program here at Cañada. I am also a first generation college student so I understand the struggles one may have when it comes to navigating college for the first time. Bio: Hi everyone, my name is Dontario Beverly. I am in my 3rd year here at Cañada College and I am a mechanical engineering major. I am the former Senator at Large for STEM in the Associated Students of Cañada College (ASCC) for the last academic school year. I am also the current President of Cañada's Black Student Union (BSU) and I am involved with Cañada's Math, Engineering, Women in Stem, and Astronomy clubs. Additionally, I am a part of the EOPS and TRIO programs here on Campus. I am an NSF scholar recipient, and a drop in tutor in the STEM Center. During my time here at Cañada, I have been to multiple conferences, retreats, and college trips centered around academic and professional development, equity, diversity and inclusion, leadership, and communication. I have a vast amount of knowledge surrounding many of the topics and opportunities available. I know how tough it can be to navigate college life while juggling other obligations and responsibilities outside of school. I am more than happy to help bounce ideas off of you and give my advice on how to effectively navigate your educational journey here at Cañada. I am a firm believer of nobody being left behind; I will play my part in ensuring that you are set up on the best path success!

Bio: Hello! My name is Manoel Aguirre, but I go by Manny. My major is astrophysics and I am currently working on transferring to a UC or CSU. It took me a while to decide on my major since I had gone through two already. Astronomy and physics were the only courses I actually liked so I decided to pursue this major. I am a returning student and a first-generation college student as well. I speak Spanish and English, so I can help you in dos idiomas. I attended CSM for a year but changed schools due to convenience. I’m glad I did because Cañada has a better community and many more resources that I can help you learn about and become part of.

Bio: Hello! My name is Sherilyn and this is my third year at Cañada College. I am pursuing a computer science degree and I plan to transfer to a UC in the Fall of 2020. This past year I was an Executive Board member on the Cañada College Student Senate and had the opportunity to attend the National Conference of Race and Ethnicity (NCORE 2018) and speak at NASPA2019, an international conference for Higher Education.  Also as a Senator, I have worked with a wide range of people from different clubs, to resources and programs, to staff and faculty on campus. As a STEM Peer Mentor, I would like to share my knowledge and experience of the campus with you and give back to the community that has helped me so much. Bio: Hello! My name is Luka Radosavljevic and I am an international student from South Africa currently in my second semester at Cañada College. I am pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I held an Executive Board position in the Associated Students of Cañada College for one year. As a student delegate I was extremely lucky to have been able to travel to LA, New York and Washington D.C for Student Leadership conferences. I was recently hired as the District Sustainability team's first Energy Analyst Intern and will be working with them on numerous projects, research and analysis along with this work as a STEM Peer Mentor. I have had a large range of experiences on campus and have made it to a powerful point in my life where I am really proud of what I have and can achieve. It is all about the journey and I cannot wait to hear about yours and see what I can do to help you by recalling my own experiences and knowledge and even more so directing you to the resources that helped me and will help you!

Bio: Hello :) My name is Wina Montian and this is my second year at Cañada College. I am majoring in Animal Biology and aiming to transfer to UC Davis for the Veterinarian school. I am also part of the Student Senate (Associated Students of Cañada College) in an Executive Board position as a Commissioner of Public Records. I’m from Thailand and I know exactly how hard it can be to be in a new place that you are not familiar with. As a mentor, I will be your friend who helps you to find all the resources you need and makes you feel comfortable in school. Also, I’ll try my best and guide you to your success.

Bio: Hi!! My name is Paloma, I am a first generation college student. This is my first year at Cañada College. I am majoring in mathematics and minoring in Theater Arts. Since starting at Cañada I have had three jobs and had to deal with a lot of pressure from my parents. So if you ever feel like college is too much I understand and hopefully you come talk to me and we can find a solution together. I have used a lot of resources on campus and plan on learning everything Cañada has to offer. If you need help or just need info I hope to hear from you!
