Getting Started

Congratulations on taking your first step towards financial stability!

SparkPoint services are open to all San Mateo County residents, including Cañada College students, faculty and staff. You do not have to be a student to use most of the services SparkPoint has to offer.

Here's what to do next:

  1. Determine your SparkPoint interests (choose one or more):

Financial Coaching:  to improve your financial know how, access public benefits, or sign up for Cañada Cash
Food Pantry:  access healthy foods for you and/or your family
Free Legal Clinic:  bilingual services available. To schedule an appointment visit: www.tinyurl.com/CanLegalClinic

  2. Contact us to schedule an appointment or learn more at 650-381-3550, cansparkpoint@smccd.edu , or stop by our office:

    Cañada College
    4200 Farm Hill Blvd.
    Redwood City, CA 94061
    Bldg. 9, Floor 1

  3. Bring your information to your first Financial Coaching session (if this is one of your interests):

This could include any information you want to review with your Financial Coach including bills, budgets, or your current credit report for example. If you don't have anything to bring in right away, that's okay too.  If you would like to fill out SparkPoint required forms in advance of your appointment, you can access them here: Welcome Form and Consent Form and bring them to your appointment, or email them to cansparkpoint@smccd.edu.

  4. Improve your financial behaviors:

Financial behaviors change and improve over time. That's why you will work with your Financial Coach to determine the appropriate financial path for you, along with timelines set by you. As you continue positive financial behaviors, you may see your debt decrease, your credit score increase, or an increase in your savings - your financial path is up to you!
