Term Definition

Articulation A process of determining whether a particular course at a community college is comparable to a corresponding course at a four-year college or university.
ASSIST An online student-transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html
CAD Child and Adolescent Development program (San Francisco State University) http://cad.sfsu.edu/details.asp
Cohort A group of students who started a particular program at the same time and will graduate at the same time.
Continuing Student You are a continuing student if you were enrolled at Cañada, CSM, or Skyline College beginning Spring or Fall 2005.

Financial Aid There are several types of financial aid available to help eligible students cover educational costs, including numerous grants and loan programs. Former Student If you attended Cañada, CSM and/or Skyline College previously, but have not been in attendance during the past academic year.

Matriculation State-mandated process designed to support student access and educational success. The matriculation process begins with steps students must complete to enroll in classes, continues through the students' educational careers,  and concludes when students accomplish their educational goals and objectives. http://www.canadacollege.edu/admissions/howto.html#matric
Matriculation Steps The following students who declare on their college applciation are required to go through the matriculation steps: a vocations certificate, an Associate degree, transfer to a four-year university, undecided about specific goals. A registration ticket will guide you through this step http://www.canadacollege.edu/forms/a&r/registration-ticket.pdf

New Transfer Student If you have attended a college or university other than Cañada, CSM, or Skyline College, you are a new transfer student at Cañada College and may be eligible for exemptions from some of the matriculation requirements.
New Student You are a new student if you have never registered at Cañada, CSM, or Skyline College before. If you were a High School Concurrent Enrollment student, you are still considered a "new" college student.
Open University Refers to enrollment process for the Spanish/English Interpretation Certificate Program. http://academic.sfsu.edu/apd/marin/index.php
Pathway A program by which students are introduced to four-year university degree programs held at community colleges. It permits eligible current and former community college students to enroll in a maximum of two courses in selected university majors at reduced fees before being admitted to the University.
Prerequisite Enrollment requirement for students that are required  to demonstrate readiness for enrollment in a course. Students who fail to meet the prerequisite may be involuntarily dropped from the course.
SFSU San Francisco State University
Special Tuition Applies to the Pathways program offered at SFSU's College of Extended Learning . Students are limited to a maximum of two courses at a special tuition rate provided they are nearing completion of an AA/AS degree that includes 30 units of lower division general education and are planning to transfer to SFSU as juniors.
Transfer Services Students interested in transferring to a four-year university can use Transfer Services to research universities, majors, academic requirements, college costs, and other transfer issues. http://canadacollege.edu/student/counselingcenter.html 
University Center Established in 2001, this center provides area residents four-year college degree programs, and workplace certifications. Through partnerships with different San Francisco Bay Area universities, students can receive a convenient college education by remaining close to their community.
