Apply for EOPS

 

Cañada College students seeking admission into the EOPS program must complete an EOPS application. Potential students call 650.306.3300 to receive an application via U.S. mail, or may visit the EOPS office to obtain an application. If a student is eligible to become part of the CARE program, please request a CARE application. Applicants may apply for EOPS at any time; however, EOPS determines the student's start date. Please note that new EOPS students are required to complete an EOPS application only once, UNLESS the student discontinues from the program. Students who discontinue and wish to reenter the program must reapply.

Am I eligible for EOPS?

EOPS is a state program designed to assist non-traditional students in college. Specifically, the program serves students who are disadvantaged economically, socially, linguistically, and educationally. Applicants who are accepted into EOPS must meet eligibility criteria which certifies them as low income and educationally disadvantaged. Students must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

1. Must be a California Resident
2. Must be eligible for Board of Govener Fee Waiver (BOG) A or BOG B *
(Students eligible for BOG C are NOT eligible for EOPS)
3. Must be enrolled, or plan to be enrolled, in college full-time (12 units or more)
4. Cannot have earned more than 70 degree applicable units*
5. Must fulfill at least one of the following educational disadvantages:

a. Tested into remedial English and Math;
b. Tested into English Second Language (ESL);
c. Not graduated from high school nor obtained GED;
d. Earned a high school dimploma with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or lower on a 4.00 scale;
e. Previously enrolled in remedial education; and/or
f. A member of an underrepresented ethnic minority group and first in their family to attend college.

Application Instructions

Only potential EOPS students who have completed steps 1 through 4, as listed below, are encouraged to apply. Please note that incomplete applications will not be processed.

STEPS
1. Complete the
Cañada College admissions application via Admissions Office website.
2. Complete the BOG Fee Waiver Application via the Financial Aid Office website.
3. Complete the English/Math Placement Examination. Click here for dates.
4. Complete the
EOPS Application.
5. Retain a copy of the forms for your records.
6. Submit a completed EOPS application in person or by mail.
7. Approved applicants will be invited to attend a mandatory orientation before receiving services.

Once accepted into the program, EOPS students are required to fulfill program requirements to remain in EOPS. Students who have successfully remained in EOPS for at least one semester and who continue in EOPS in subsequent semesters are known as 'Continuing EOPS students'.
