Active EOPS students may receive a book voucher to help pay for some of their book expenses if they have: (a) signed an EOPS Mutual Responsibility Contract (MRC), (b) completed the Student Educational Plan (SEP) with their EOPS counselor, (c) completed a minimum of three (3) contacts with their assigned EOPS Counselors, and (d) who are enrolled full-time in course work each semester. Book vouchers are generally available from EOPS through the two weeks before the start of instruction. To be considered for a book voucher, students must also attend a Mandatory EOPS orienation two to three weeks before the start of the academic semester. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for a book voucher at the EOPS orientation. Book vouchers are limited and are not guaranteed, they are available on first-come, first-serve basis. Students are notified by mail or email to attend an orienation two to three weeks to the start of EOPS orientation. For newly accepted EOPS students who have completed a Student Education Plan (SEP) with another CañadaCollege counselor, they must bring a copy of the SEP to their first appointment with their EOPS counselor.
EOPS book vouchers must be used at the Cañada College (CC) Bookstore and can only be used to purchase required textbooks and workbooks for classes in which the student is enrolled (not for supplies, equipment, uniforms, or other required materials). EOPS Book Vouchers are good for one semester and are not transferable. There are no refunds or reimbursement from EOPS or CC Bookstore for books that are purchased elsewhere. If the course books you need are not available, students must see the bookstore manager for instruction.
Book Voucher Regulations
In order to continue to be eligible for EOPS services students must be aware of certain State requirements that EOPS must adhere to. They are as follows:
- Students can only buy required books. Students are to make book selections at the bookstore carefully, as it prevents students from having to stand in line unnecessarily. Students are allowed to get the books required for the typed-in subject, section and teacher.
- We will purchase books that are on a course syllabus that state, “required”, not “recommended.”
- If you need to change a class you must bring a new registration receipt and any books you received for the “old” class back to EOPS so that you can get the books for the “new” class.
- If you drop a class, or drop out of school altogether, you need to return all books to EOPS for a full credit.
- If the book voucher amount is $200.00 (including tax), and the total cost of bookscome to approximately $180.00, students need to allow approximately $20.00 for tax. Any amount over $200.00 will be covered by the student. Students can keep books bought by means of a voucher for classes completed at the end of the semester. The amount of the EOPS Book Voucher is considered a resource and will be reported to Financial Aid Office.
- Each semester, students are required to sign up for a book voucher. Students sign up during theirEOPS orientation before the start of each semester. There is a deadline to receive a book voucher. To find out the last day to receive/use a book voucher, please see EOPS Calendar.
