Is this class for me?

  • There are no prerequisite courses for this program. However, you must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • It is highly recommended that you be Eligible for READ 836 and ENGL 836, or ESL 400

What will I learn?
Upon completion of this course you will be qualified to take the National Certification exam for Phlebotomy as well as qualify for State Licensure as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT1). A CPT1 can perform venipunctures and skin punctures (finger sticks). Further education and training at another institution would be needed to do arterial punctures. A CPT1 can draw blood for diagnostic purposes at hospitals, clinics, blood centers, laboratories and in certain situations, for police agencies or insurance companies.

What are the details?
The phlebotomy course is divided into 8 weeks (48 hours) of classroom training followed by 48 hours of clinical experience.
