Carlmont High School and Cañada College have teamed-up to expand the “Medical/Science Magnet Program,” which helps prepare you for a career in a medical or science field.
Opportunities for pursuing a career in the medical, allied health, and science fields have never been better!

But how can you get on the right track and receive the training you need to enter into a medical/science profession?

How does the program work?

operating_room_workerThe Medical/Science Magnet Program is designed to accelerate your entry into a health/science career by moving you towards a technical certificate, an Associate of Science degree, or a Bachelor of Science degree program. If you complete all four semesters of the program, you will:

  • identify a health or science career that is a good fit for you
  • participate in career shadowing
  • earn 6 units toward a college degree
  • be in the Fast Lane to a career in health or science.

Some of the courses offered through the Medical/Science Magnet program will also count toward prerequisites for several high demand health career programs:

Prerequisite Units toward Program
3 units
Respiratory Therapy*
6 units
Nursing** or Bachelor of Science in Health Science Administration***

 
*SPCH 120 - Interpersonal Communication
**SPCH 120 - Interpersonal Communication & SOCI 100 - Introduction to Sociology
***HSCI 100 - General Health Science & SOCI 100 - Introduction to Sociology

In addition to the career programs listed above, the Medical/Science Magnet Program will provide you with a solid foundation for other health career programs including, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Anesthesia Technician, Central Services Technician, EMT, Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant.


Here’s what you need to know...

  • you must register for concurrent enrollment to be part of the program
  • there are NO fees or charges for courses
  • earn both high school & college credits
  • classes are taught at Carlmont HS during regular school hours
  • courses are taught by either Carlmont HS teachers or Cañada College faculty.
