Site looking for students interested in: raising community awareness regarding health issues

Education and age of desired intern/volunteer: High school: 16-18 yrs. for data entry and Memories in the Making Artist Facilitator volunteer, Memory Walk team member; College: 18 yrs. + for Memory Walk committee member, Memory Walk team member, health fair volunteer

Description of opportunity and duties:

  • Memory Walk committee member: fundraise, recruit walkers, plan actual event
  • Data entry: Update donor database, Helpline Database, Helpline Resource Directory
  • Health fair volunteer: promote Alzheimer’s association programs at events; information and referral
  • Memories in the Making Artist Facilitator volunteer: co-facilitate art activities for individuals with Alzheimer’s
  • Memory Walk team member: become a member of a team who completes the Memory Walk

Type of health care settings:

  • Alternative: Community-based organization

Experience type: Volunteer position

Duration and time of commitment: Varies among position. Prefer 40 hour commitment with a minimum of 2-4 hours per week. (Artist facilitator, 1 year commitment)

Application Process: 1) Complete Volunteer application; 2) Meet with staff; Attend appropriate training dependant upon the position.

Requirements and qualifications needed: Depends upon specific position. In general, interest in Alzheimer’s, desire to work in teams or on committees.

Patient populations (i.e. children, seniors): Adults

Amount of patient contact: Varies depending upon position. Memories in the Making Artist Facilitator volunteer has the most direct contact with clients.
