Center for Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO)
Center for Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO) This program supports the development of new start-ups, assists existing businesses to grow and thrive, and offers small business owners classes, workshops, seminars, and one-on-one coaching. Business owners receiving these types of supports have a better chance of staying in business, even through tough times, because they have learned to avoid pitfalls and have the business acumen to succeed.
Knowing that small business is the lifeblood of our economy, Cañada College created a comprehensive resource center aptly named the Center for Entrepreneurial Opportunities (CEO). Since its launch in January 2012 the college has dedicated faculty and administrative resources to support the development of new start-ups and to assist existing businesses, teaching essential skills and providing knowledge that any business needs.
The positive impact is to create jobs and businesses to spur responsible economic growth. The CEO has made a direct impact on over 300 people at all phases of small business success in San Mateo County and beyond. We received two mini-grants from the CCC State Chancellor’s Office and a Wells Fargo grant to host a speaker and workshop series and offer financial education services to our diverse student body and business community.
SBCD - The SMCCCD recently became the new SBDC host for San Mateo County, offering additional resources for small business services. Cañada’s CEO is one of three locations for this program through a grant from the SBA/SBDC. This is a space where entrepreneurs can incubate start up enterprises and meet with business advisors through a wide network of expertise. The CEO will provide a professional conference room and open space to hold meetings with stakeholders, convene design sessions, and assist in the launch of early stage companies.
