Priority Enrollment Program (PEP)

This program is designed to create an easy transition from high school to college for high school seniors.  This will allow students to complete the necessary steps toward becoming a college student, and to have the opportunity to register early for the Summer and Fall classes during the early registration period.

PEP offers students:

Parent Orientation and Freshman Connection (April 24, 2010) - This is an opportunity for students and their parents to meet with faculty and staff, gather necessary information about college, and to get acquainted with the campus.  On this day, there will be:

  • Workshops for both students and their parents to learn about school policies, Financial aid availability and more
  • Information tables on programs and support services
  •  Student and parent panels will be an opportunity to hear from others who went through this transition
  • Campus tour  that will help you find your way around campus
  • Lunch with faculty and Staff that will give you a chance to know us
  • More….
  • Agenda (will be available soon)

Placement Testing - will determine the level of your math and English and assist you and your counselor to place you in appropriate courses.  To expedite your enrollment, we recommend that you take the placement test on the Parent Orientation and Freshman Connection day.  However, if you miss the test, you may still take it at another time, but before your counseling session.  The test schedule is available on-line. Please note that there is no time limit on the test, and you may use a calculator for the math placement test.

Group Counseling -will provide you with general information on programs including the Certificate, Degree, and Transfer requirements.  During this session counselors will assist you with your course selections, and guide you to navigate our registration browser, WEBSMART. Students who attend “Parent Orientation and Freshman Connection”, and one of the counseling Sessions, will receive the priority registration.

Appointment for one on one Counseling – you may make one-on one counseling appointment to meet with a counselor during the summer or Fall semester to discuss your educational and career goals and to complete your Student Educational Plan, (SEP).

PEP starts with a few easy steps:

  1. Apply to Cañada College by submitting an online application through WebSMART.
  2. Complete the on-line-Orientation.  A certificate of completion will be issued, when you complete the on-line orientation.  Print this certificate and bring it to the group counseling and Registration Session. You must have a score of 80% or more in order to print the certificate.
