•  A personal essay: You must write a one page (about 300 words) essay that explains the reason being interested in studying in the United States and includes your educational goals.

Evaluation

We will evaluate documents upon receipt. If you meet the admission requirements, we will mail you an acceptance letter, which will include pre-registration information. School policy states that once you have been accepted you must make a $500 deposit toward your registration.

2. Prepayment and I-20 form

When you remit the deposit of $500.00, we will issue an I-20 form and schedule a counseling and registration appointments for you. If for any reason you decide not to attend Cañada College, this fee is refundable in full upon your written request.

Second Step:

Apply for Student (F-1) Visa

  • Obtain a valid passport from your government
  • Make an appointment with the U.S. consulate at the Embassy nearest you. You may ask them which documents you need to apply for an F-1 visa besides the I-20 form and Financial Documents, (it varies from country to country)
  • Complete the I-901 form and pay SEVIS fee ($100) www.fmjfee.com
  • Apply for a Student (F1) visa at the U.S. Consulate. Take the following documents to your appointment with the U.S. consulate:
    • I-20 form that you have received from Cañada College
    • A copy of your financial statement (the same statement you submitted to Cañada College)
    • Verification/receipt of your SEVIS fee payment
  • If the consulate grants you a visa, they place a visa stamp on your passport and return the I-20 form to you.
  • Buy your plane ticket. You may have a reservation ahead of time.

Arrival to the United States

•  At the board of entry (Airport), the immigration officer will ask for your passport and I-20 form. The officer will give you an "arrival/departure" card (I-94), to complete. The Immigration officer will review your documents, and take your picture and finger prints. After reviewing your papers, the officer will stamp your I-20 and I-94 forms and return them to you.

Interested in a private Language School

You may obtain an I-20 form from a Language School in the United States by following the first and second steps explained above. You must contact the Language schools to obtain detailed information about their admission requirements.

The starting dates of the Language schools are varied. They usually begin their session every other week or every other month. Please contact them for specific dates.

Upon completion of the advanced level of a language program, you may transfer to Cañada College. You must follow the first step explained above and receive an I-20 form and transfer in before taking classes at Cañada College. You may be required to take more English instruction when you transfer to Cañada College. The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Cañada College is not as intensive as a program at a Language School. Please note that Cañada College can not issue an I-20 form to students with a major of "English as a Second Language Program". The ESL courses are available to International Students in addition to their academic program.
